Compared to humans who have at most a dozen ‘breeds’ to boast of, the number of dog breeds is somewhere around 800 just in Western countries alone. This along with the fact that dogs are the descendants of wolves but have been interacting domestically with humans for about 10,000 years, understanding their complex behaviors takes some time and patience. While each dog has its own set of unique characters depending on various factors, some common traits are quite prominent.

Predatory nature

Though dogs are predators, it does not mean that they pounce on every cat or rat they lay eyes on. However, they do have the capacity to do so. Their hearing, field of vision and sense of smell are so acute that they can locate and pick up their prey quickly and accurately.
